Featuring the artwork of Cordova-based artist Karl Becker, this exhibition showcases the architecture and surrounding environs of the historic Kennecott mine, located in the heart of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Becker’s art depicts the historic built environment of Kennecott as well as the surrounding glaciated mountain landscape. Mountain Treasures distinguishes itself from other landscape painting exhibitions through its use of juxtaposition of the manmade environment with nature.
Describing himself as a watercolor painter of realist landscapes, architecture and wildlife, Becker has field-sketched and painted watercolors in the Cordova and Prince William Sound region for over 30 years.
Exhibit are sponsored in part by Copper Valley Electric Community Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts and the Alaska State Council on the Arts.
